No scoring for one month

Hello! I decided to take a month out to do something a little different – write a solo piano album. In three weeks I’ve written as many pieces as I could and finally selected the chosen eleven. Now the challenge – learn to play my own stuff! Recording begins soon.

To make this project even more like Challenge Anneka, I decided to design and illustrate the cover artwork myself. The design is based on a dream I had about a flying, pirate-ship piano held up by balloons and birds, and floating into an old, beautiful, theatre stage. No weed involved. I’m mainly enjoying getting the chance to listen to hours of music, with writing it all the time, I don’t often have the luxury of listening this much. Anyway, I’ll leave you with a sneak-peak of my inking…the empty stage. Cast, colour and soundtrack – coming soon!

Was just wondering if when you say above “Once i learn how to play my own compositions” whether you just compose them and get someone else to play them or was that just a joke? ;-)

    Best wishes,

Hey Mark, unfortunatly it’s not a joke – the composer is indeed trying to double act as performer! It’s taken just over a week for me to write the pieces, but playing them is taking me a lot longer. It would have been nice to get a professional pianist to play the pieces but I’ve no time to properly transcribe the music for a new reader, or the backing to hire one for this project. So it’s a real home made album this one. But i’ll do my best for you all : )

So you’re not a pianist first and foremost then? I thought you were from seeing some of your images on myspace (I think it was myspace anyway).

What do you write the music on then? Guitar or something else?

If ever you need a Pianist who doesn’t need transcribed pieces then I could always help out with that :-) I’ve been playing Piano now for 33 years (since I was 4) and just got a Yamaha CP1 Stage Piano so have a very nice sounding Piano indeed.

Also I wouldn’t need to be hired at a rate. I could work for peanuts or a share or just to try and get out there would be nice.

Anyway if ever you do need someone I’m always free as I work from home nowadays after being made redundant as Senior Commercial Producer at a Studio here in Birmingham. Now working in Web Design / Graphic Design but trying to write some music to hopefully send out to places.

    Looking forward to your album.

    Best wishes,

    • You’re right, there are splashings of my performance side around the web. I am classically trained but have been a musician in touring rock bands and playing on records for a long time, so yes I do play and have done since I was 4 (like you!) So yes I am a pianist first & foremost, but my profession is as a composer not as a concert pianist, so I just take a little longer to get the performance just right, not being concert pianist standard. I think my years in rock/pop music have slightly overtaken my classical background too, but i have enough to compose classically on the piano and eventually play and record my own compositions, as in the Hyundai case. Meanwhile, I’m very glad to hear you’re getting into writing & music – go for it and enjoy yourself! It’s a beautiful thing. I wish you the very best in your next adventures!

Immaculate piece of music! A real joy to hear it. Please advise me when the album will be released. We thank you for the music you compose. Greeting from Greece, John

I do agree with all the ideas you’ve presented on your post. They’re really convincing and will certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are too short for starters. Could you please extend them a bit from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.

    Dear Vanessa!

I try to find your album Paintings on Piano on official CD, but I realized that this is not available in this format. Could you share this album in other format than MP3? I mean in a losless audio format to let me create an audio CD from it. We choosen one of your composition, A Day to Remember as our music for our wedding ceremony in August. Could you help us, please? We don’t ask you for free, of course.

    Thank you in advance,
    Robert (Hungary)
