Trying to give up cakes for lent- i think it’s one of the worst decisions I’ve made this year! And so I’m submerging into work for distraction. Apparently the Hyundai 2011 advert is out on TV but i still haven’t managed to catch it! So took this one from youtube for now (on home page). Thinking of writing a solo piano album just because I love the piano, so hope to get the time for it. Recently just finished scoring an action packed LA feature film which was epic, and also got about 50 new songs for the new ‘Starling’ album, so will pick our favourite set to record soon. Just wanted to say great work on the Hyundai advert. It’s really nice and well written.
Seems like quite a few car companies are going for piano led music nowadays. There’s also that one with Giovanni Allevi playing which is really nice too.
I was just wondering how you got into composing bespoke music for TV? I know that there are music libraries that a lot of adverts use but they would just be standard PRS rates and not the same sort of calibre as the music you wrote.
I don’t suppose I could be cheeky could I and ask how much someone gets for writing a bespoke piece of music like you did on the Hyundai advert could I?
Anyway fabulous piece of music. I’ll be following your site to see when your solo album comes out. Is there a specific place where it will be mentioned?

Thanks Mark for your kind words. Yeah there are some great advert scores out right now, and solo piano seems to be making a comeback, which is always nice for us composers.
How i got into media music scoring? I began with doing free student films at Uni, made lots of friends in film/TV industry at festivals & events, and so we all journey together through the years, some directors start new film/TV companies or advertising agencies etc. So it’s all through relationship for me. I don’t currently do library music, I prefer to work to the picture really, it’s more of a marriage that way.
All i can say is that advertising income is often better than doing an independant feature film when looking at the time vs money ratio. But that doesn’t stop me from loving writing an indi film score – i love them all!
